Introduction to Skillshare Review

Skillshare may not have a course on "how to manage learning", but it is important to use our platform to find new colleagues, which is probably important.

Michael Carzanapracorn and Malcolm Wong are the fathers of Skillshare, or they created the live platform in November 2010 in New York City, New York. The platform has become something of a teacher's choice. If you've been looking for a consistent strategy as a reference digital platform for advanced electives since Leno was created, there are 10 cases.

We tested Skillshare with a premium access bonus and are proud to show you what we've got. Keep reading to get our full Skillshare Integrity Review.

Skillshare   Pros & Cons

Skillshare Creative Classes

Pros Cons
Varied content topics all suited to creative types Feedback from other learners is rarely insightful or instructional
Optional assignments and community interaction No guarantee that instructors participate in community features
Very Low price Not fully accessible

You know the saying: "Never stop learning." Skillshare, a website where you can learn any number of skills by watching a series of video lectures, helps you meet that goal. A couple of years ago, Skillshare shifted its focus to teaching skills for creative types and now offers a world of educational content that can benefit your career, satisfy your hobbies, or just help you achieve something new. Many of the courses have additional materials, such as worksheets and readings, as well as interactive community spaces where students can share their work and give each other feedback. It doesn't cost much either. Skillshare is an Editors' Choice pick for online learning services.

While Skillshare is a fun place to feed your brain, it may not have the kind of courses you're looking for. If you're looking for inspirational words and advice from people at the top of their fields, MasterClass is better. If you need to study more traditional academic subjects like trigonometry and organic chemistry, Khan Academy is the way to go. Both services are also Editors' Choice winners.

How much does Skillshare cost?

Skillshare Creative Classes

Skillshare offers a limited free tier, premium membership ($8 per month or $29.88 per year), and a team account ($139,139 per year, with a minimum of 2 people).

The free version gives you access to a small selection of video lectures and their related content, such as PDF workbooks and community discussions. You can watch introductory videos for any class, but you won't be able to access most of them otherwise. In testing, I had a hard time determining which classes were available to free users, which was frustrating.

How much do other learning sites cost?

The cost of online education is ubiquitous with prices changing all the time, including Skillshare. Skillshare's monthly and yearly prices have gone up and down several times. It is frustrating for people who may now feel that they have been cheated in the past.

However, the current value of Skillshare for personal accounts is quite low. By comparison, a master class without the monthly subscription option costs $180 per year. LinkedIn Learning is only available to LinkedIn Premium members, starting at $29 per month. Subscriptions come with benefits other than online courses, including access to people and information from LinkedIn.

Khan Academy is completely free. It is a non-profit organization and you can donate to the site if you want to support it financially.

Other sites that offer more practical skills training, such as Coursera, Udacity, and Udemy, some offer free courses, others cost -40-$400 per month.

What's inside Skillshare?

Let's see what Skillshare offers. Generally speaking, the site is classified into three categories: create, create and improve.

Create includes subtopics for all types of creators: animators, creative writers, filmmakers, artists, graphic designers, painters, musicians, photographers, UI and UX designers, and web developers.

The compilation includes business-related sub-pixels: Analytics, Freelancing and Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Management, and Marketing.

At the moment, Thrive has only two sub-themes: lifestyle and productivity.

Use the search bar to find classes that clearly don't match these categories. Take the kitchen theme, for example. Skillshare has many cooking classes, but you don't know these three categories.

What are the skillshare classes like?

The class does not have a specific format. There are some videos that are about 10 minutes long each. Other classes have 50 short videos of just a minute or two. Some classes have homework. When this happens, students share their creations with others who have taken the class, usually in a comments section of the course. Some teachers stick around to respond to student work or answer questions, others obviously haven't logged in to the site for a while.

Generally speaking, there are two types of courses: Skillshare Original and Individualized Classes. When people create a class, they can earn money from it. One more moment.

Skillshare Originals is a course produced by Skillshare. Co-created with some partners, like Mailchimp, Patreon, and Eataly. They may have famous or semi-famous trainers and the quality of the production is guaranteed to be high. An original class almost always has several videos of about 8-10 minutes, clearly labeled and for you to watch. Since the videos are quite short, you can watch them occasionally, pausing and resuming the classes as needed. This framework makes it possible to set your own speed.

To be fair, the best user-generated content classes are structured in a similar way: concise, hierarchical, and clearly labeled. Since we started reviewing Skillshare, the company has started auditing user-generated videos and weeding out those that don't meet Skillshare's standards. The service is still running hundreds of classes. You can tell which one is better because they get high marks from students and many students enroll in them.

Although you, the student, may never know how much work goes into creating a class, the best ones clearly follow a detailed outline, but don't force the instructor to read a script word for word. The best coaches know where the lesson is headed and can get you there in an authentic way. This is a much more advanced structure than the scripted style of most classes on LinkedIn Learning, where many instructors have an overly corporate and sometimes robotic stage presence.

Teacher's point of view

With Skillshare, anyone can be a student or a teacher (or both). Instructors are responsible for every aspect of their course, from designing it to uploading videos and materials. Teachers who host Skillshare courses refer students and other teachers and earn money through royalties.

How Much Money Can Skillshare Teachers Make? According to the company, the royalty calculation works like this: First, Skillshare saves one royalty per month, which is 30% of the premium membership income. Second, Skillshare Premium members (both paid and free trial members) add their video views. You must have at least 30 premium minutes viewed on all your videos to qualify for the monthly royalty. Students speed up playback, reducing viewing time; If a student plays a 10-minute video at 2x speed, the teacher earns five minutes. Finally, Skillshare collects all the premium minutes viewed per month and calculates the percentage per teacher. If a teacher earns 1% of all minutes viewed, they earn 1% jute royalty.

Enjoy your creative abilities.

Skillshare allows you to acquire new skills and you can find some classes that challenge you significantly. It is better than ever in terms of quality control and focus. Her focus has shifted to the skills of creative people, including business development, software use, and memo writing. Skillshare's low cost and variety of content makes it easy to recommend new skills to those who want to learn or improve existing skills. This is the winner of the editors' choice for online education.

For other online education services, MasterClass and Khan Academy also won the Editors' Choice Award. Lectures are good for inspiration and advice, while Khan Academy specializes in academic teaching.
